Gisela Dasen-Kregcyk
Gisela is a translator from Switzerland. She was brought up in a bilingual Swiss town by a mother who had lived in England and a father from Vienna. So, ever since her early childhood she was used to switching between three different languages and two dialects. It was therefore no surprise that she ended up studying linguistics. Due to her wide range of interests, she initially worked in a variety of jobs, such as those in the fields of technology, publishing and arts & crafts. However, linguistics had always been her first love and so she became a French-German translator for her home town in Switzerland. When the opportunity arose to translate English books, Gisela didn’t think twice – after all, English is her favourite language. |

Interview
How would you describe yourself?
Open-minded, curious, affable. And a bit chaotic – but only in private life. At work I am a terribly meticulous person.
How did you become interested in translating?
I love reading and I love languages, so it was an obvious choice.
What kinds of books do you enjoy reading?
Mystery, sci-fi, thrillers, suspense stories, historical novels… Basically, whatever I can lay my hands on!
What do you like to do in your free time?
Reading, handicrafts and cooking for (and eating with!) friends. At the end of the day I also enjoy watching one of my favourite TV series.
