Author interviewHow would you describe yourself?
A sociable animal lover with community spirit. How did you become interested in food writing and developing recipes? Being diagnosed as coeliac meant I had to use my imagination and think carefully before eating anything. I wanted to eat tasty food without gluten but also wanted to please others without intolerances. Where do you get your recipe ideas? Sometimes just looking in the fridge and seeing ingredients which call out to be used together. I never waste anything. Also, my husband has an allotment and I never know what might appear in the kitchen - but all vegetables naturally work together in harmony. That is nature’s way. What’s your favourite cookbook? The Kitchen Diaries by Nigel Slater. He is a genius and his recipes are delicious and unpretentious. What do you like to do when you’re not testing recipes and writing? I love going to the theatre, especially the Playhouse in Salisbury, which is amazing for comfort, value and variety of productions. I read constantly and belong to a Zumba fitness class, amateur dramatic group, Women’s Institute and Mothers' Union. I also enjoy browsing in thrift shops and entertaining. |
